The ELC Program: Continuing the Investment

The ELC Program: Continuing the Investment

At Grand Convention 2016, Theta Foundation concluded our Give to Lead, Give to Learn Endowment Campaign by raising $5.2 million for the Educational Leadership Consultant (ELC) and need-based scholarship programs. $4 million of that $5.2 million built the endowment for the ELC program, and that funding was secured because of the knowledge of the breadth, accountability, consistency, and results of this nearly 60-year-old program.

Theta Foundation knew that with talented young women, strategic training, high standards, and carefully measured outcomes, Give to Lead, Give to Learn would ensure Theta’s ELCs would keep Theta leading, learning, and continually improving every day.

Emily Callen, Beta Kappa/Drake, was a first-year ELC during the 2016-17 Academic Year—the first ELC class serving with funding from the Give to Lead, Give to Learn endowment. She reflected on her time establishing the Theta Mu Chapter at Colorado School of Mines:

“Establishing one of Theta’s newest chapters this year was a huge honor. The women in the charter class came to rely on their ELCs to be there for guidance, and knowing we were a constant source of support and encouragement for them was so important as they navigated their first year as a chapter. It was such a privilege to work with the women of Theta Mu throughout the past nine months and watch them grow.”

The Give to Lead, Give to Learn Campaign has concluded, and an endowment is thriving for the ELC program—but one endowment can’t do it all. Even with endowment support, Theta Foundation must fund nearly 56% of its budgeted program expenses from annual fundraising efforts and special campaigns. Currently, 83% of the funding for the Foundation’s single largest grant in support of Fraternity educational and leadership programs (which includes aspects of the ELC program) comes from unrestricted annual fund support provided by alumnae, parents, friends, and chapters.

Kappa Alpha Theta relies on annual fund support to continually support Theta’s programs. When you make an unrestricted gift by June 30, your gift makes an immediate impact on the students ELCs like Emily will be working with in the 2017-18 Academic Year. Join our annual supporters and help Theta’s youngest members achieve their leadership potential.
