Theta Foundation partners with Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity to support educational programming through the Fraternity Grant.
The 2011-12 Fraternity Grant supports the following programs:
Advisor and Leadership Training – Programming designed to educate chapter advisors about leadership skills and managing group dynamics. The 2011-12 Fraternity Grant will also support the creation of a webinar series for advisors by InGinuity, “a consultancy focused on building personal competence and improving team synergy through retreats, possibilities planning, professional skill development, keynotes, and a variety of other learning strategies.”
GreekLife.Edu – Online program required of first-year Thetas that educates students on the issues associated with alcohol consumption, hazing, and sexual assault and empowers students to make educated decisions that translate into successful collegiate experiences.
Fraternity Archives – The Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity archives collection has the potential to enrich the study of women's history by exploring the culture and values of traditional women and the Fraternity's influence on the field of education for all women and the lives of its members. The Theta archives collection continues to be a source of information for scholarly work for members and non-members, most recently used by Diana Turk, PhD, author of Bound by a Mighty Vow. Dr. Turk will return to work with the collection to research material for her second book.
Educational Leadership Consultants – The Kappa Alpha Theta Educational Leadership Consultant (ELC) program was launched in 1959. ELCs are recent college graduates who serve as role models for Theta's college chapter members and alumnae volunteers. The Fraternity Grant supports training opportunities of general educational value for the ELCs, including professional development, conflict resolution and facilitation skills, and attendance at two professional conferences.
HazingPrevention.org – HazingPrevention.Org is a national organization dedicated to empowering people to prevent hazing in college and university student groups. The Fraternity Grant supports Kappa Alpha Theta’s sponsorship of the Hazing Prevention.org website and provides access for Thetas to educational webinars, participation in National Hazing Prevention Week, and online e-newsletters.
Mental Health Counseling and Education – The Fraternity’s “Sisters Supporting Sisters” initiative provides ongoing and current educational materials to collegians and their advisors on mental health and wellness. The Fraternity Grant supports access for all Theta members to All One Health's Talk One-2-One program, a call-in service that allows Thetas to discuss issues that may affect their emotional well-being with mental health professionals.
Risk Management on the Road – Co-sponsored by Kappa Alpha Theta and MJ Insurance, Inc., this program serves as a risk management educational opportunity for young professionals of women's fraternal organizations.
Something of Value – This program is a values-based approach to risk-management education for collegians. The program format includes a mock trial, teaching confrontation skills, and group discussions of values. Participants identify risky behaviors, such as eating disorders, substance abuse, abusive relationships, hazing, harassment, personal safety concerns and other issues specific to their campus environments and then develop action plan items to deal with specific issues on their campuses.
Theta Talk – Theta Talk is an opportunity for the Fraternity to share Theta values with others by inviting a CampusSpeak speaker to a college campus to discuss a topic relevant to the campus. This program is offered to each new chapter during the chapter's first or second year.
