The Friendship Fund was established in 1926 and has been called "The Heart of the Fraternity." It is a tangible expression of Theta's love and concern for her sisters experiencing severe financial distress, catastrophic illness, natural disaster, and urgent family crisis. Management of the Friendship Fund was assumed by Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation in 1994, and in 2003 expanded to assist all members, both alumnae and collegian. A gift from the Friendship Fund is given from loving Theta sisters without expectation of repayment. The request and disbursement of the fund are confidential and for this reason the full measure of the gift and the importance of this program are not fully realized.

In their own words recipients say

"This gift is accepted with a full heart and an even stronger belief in the love of this world. Thank you, sisters, for your love and loyalty. My life will be easier because of you. I hope one day to reciprocate this generosity for another sister in need."

"My gift from the Friendship Fund was a total surprise. I have always wondered who the recipients of the Friendship Fund are, and now I know. The events of my life this past year have been very unusual. By the grace of God and the love of my friends, I am at peace. Life goes on, and I am so blessed. Thank you Thetas…."

The Friendship Fund has grown substantially from the first pennies contributed during Founders Day celebrations. In 2006-2007 over $102,000 was gifted. Thoughtful contributions have enabled the Foundation to make a difference in the lives of countless members.
