On why she gives to the Foundation

Over the years, I’ve written lots of requests for Friendship Fund gifts for situations as diverse as loss of a home due to a hurricane, loss of a job, and serious illness that results in enormous medical bills. Most of the recipients have little trouble figuring out that I was involved, and I get to see their reactions immediately. They are profoundly grateful, and in so many cases, the check from the Friendship Fund begins the process of turning the situation around. I know that at least one recipient repaid the gift when her situation improved.
