"Receiving the scholarship had an immense effect on me, my family and my chapter, and it continues to have effects on me thirty years later."

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
On the impact of winning a 1979 Founders Memorial Scholarship
“The Hannah Fitch Shaw scholarship helped my parents tremendously as they struggled to put me and my two siblings through college and professional schools. My entire chapter could take pride in my achievement and in knowing that the international organization had chosen to honor Psi Chapter in this way. That fall our recruitment was very successful. We had weathered the storm of potentially losing our chapter facility and come through a very strong chapter.”
“The scholarship continued to affect me positively throughout my college and law school years. It helped me become the University of Wisconsin “Greek Woman of the Year” as well as helped in my admission to the Northwestern University School of Law. When I was interviewing for a job at a large law firm, I recall one interviewer in particular asking me about my Theta experience as chapter president and winner of the Founders Memorial scholarship. I ended up getting a job offer from that firm. I worked there for five years and even met my future husband there. Now, years later, I am a senior attorney at BP and just celebrated my 20th anniversary with the company.”
“I was extremely honored at the time to win the Hannah Fitch Shaw scholarship, but as the years go by my appreciation for the profound effect it had on my education, my beloved Psi Chapter, my family, my self- confidence, and my career grows even more. That award made a significant difference in my life and that’s why I support the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation annually. I want to be able to give back some of the benefit I received from this important organization.”
