"The lessons I learned in Peru I couldn't have learned anywhere else."

On her experience running a volunteer clinic in Peru
"Working with the Peruvian women and children to test their community members for various diseases was incredibly rewarding. We often worked in local homes or schoolrooms because there were no health facilities. The community women welcomed us and were eager to help set up tables and chairs for other community members. It was a great feeling to all come together to work toward achieving the same goal. Even though the conditions for our campaigns were makeshift and we did not often have enough supplies, we made it work and were able to perform the tests on everyone who came to participate. The lessons I learned through my experiences in Peru were things that I could never have learned through second hand information."
