"Thank you, Foundation, for igniting the humanitarian spirit in me."

GRANT RECIPIENT
On her work educating African refugees

Alison volunteered in Zambia for a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) called FORGE that provides people of underdeveloped countries with the tools and resources to enrich their daily lives and assists refugees in returning home to their native countries.

"My time at the Mwange Refugee Camp was life changing, inspiring, extremely challenging and absolutely priceless. There are currently no other NGOs like FORGE that allow students to enter into refugee camps, let alone attend Repatriation Task Force meetings with the UN and Red Cross. While I am interested in policymaking, this experience has tempted me to go into fieldwork instead. Putting human faces on international crises really changes the nature of the work. Working in a cubicle back in the US may have had a significant impact, but being a liaison between the policymakers and the people is something that is invaluable.

Thank you, Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation. This experience has lit the humanitarian spirit in me and continues to help me in my studies at Stanford and as Philanthropy co-chair for my Theta chapter." - Alison
